Fan Jennifer Cook meets Patrick Dempsey

Yes, he is that hot in person.
Since my brush with my boyfriend, Patrick Dempsey, everyone asks me that…and yes people..DUH…the answer is YES!

Let me set the scene…
I work at a television station in Orlando. We are 24-hour news, and have a “sister-station” that is 24-hour sports.  People working for the sports channel received this invitation, and, being the smart people they are, immediately sent it to me.

Jokingly, I sent the invitation to my husband, thinking there is no way he would let me go.  Instead, he said he wanted to go for the free tequila, and said we should ditch our kids (one who’s name is Patrick!) to go check it out.  Plus, he figured if he was there, then I wouldn’t be so quick to run away with my real boyfriend.

So we drive from Orlando to Daytona Beach, and I start to get nervous.
One, what if there is a list? I’m not on it, but I figured I could B.S. my way in.  Although, I was so nervous, I wasn’t sure it words could come.
Two, what would I say to him?? I mean, “Can I touch your hair?” is something that would sure get me thrown out.
Three, and this is the biggest one to me, what if he’s a jerk? I just couldn’t stand it if he was mean or rude.  I didn’t want to ruin my fantasy!!

So we enter the ballroom, there are about 50 people or so inside. No security, no list, no worries! We saddle up to one of the bars, and strike up a conversation with a man standing next to the table.  After about 15 minutes of talking, he introduces himself as the CEO of the marketing company working with El Grado tequila.  I introduce myself, and he then asks if I’m going to the Daytona race the following day.  Of course I am! I go all the time when Patrick is racing (I like to support my boyfriend) and have to be out there for work anyway for the big Coke Zero 400 NASCAR race following. 
So my new BFF asks me if I would like to set up an interview with Patrick at the track on Saturday.  I don’t think I heard anything else after that! Yes, yes, details, details, details, and then he walks into the room.

This is where I start to loose my mind.  I throw my camera to my husband, and go in for the kill.
Now when I say he was hot…he was INCREDIBLE.  He looked amazing.  And not only that, he was sooo kind.  Like not human kind.  He took so many pictures, signed so many autographs, would talk to anyone about anything.  I knew I had nothing to fear.
I walked right up to him and the conversation went something like this:
Jen: “Congratulations on a great racing season!”
Patrick: “Thanks…are you going to the race tomorrow?”
Jen: “Of course!”

Jen: “Well, good luck tomorrow!”
Patrick: “Thanks…really, thanks”
I then walked away and had a total freak out moment.  I started texting everyone I knew.  I updated my facebook status.  I started drinking lots of tequila.

Full disclosure here…(and please don’t think less of me for what you’re about to hear!) Patrick is very touchy.  Not in a bad way, but I like how he was NOT afraid to touch people. He had his hand on my shoulder during our whole picture/conversation. So when I walked away from him, he went in to give me a hug (at least I think) and we did a half-hug thing…and I totally took my left hand and rubbed it across his belly. I felt that six-pack!  Yes ladies…be jealous!

Let’s just say I didn’t sleep much that night, as I was having lots of crazy dreams.  I spent hours doing research about Patrick Dempsey Racing.  The next morning, I tried to be as cute as possible for my big interview.  The problem was, we were at a race track in the middle of Florida for 12 hours and it was 98 degrees…not including humidity.

I practiced and practiced and practiced my questions for the big interview.

Patrick walked out of his trailer and came straight for us.  I said, “Can we ask you a few questions?” He responded with, “I will be right back…but is it ok if I run to the bathroom first?” Of course!
So he walked across the garage, stopping along the way to take pictures and sign autographs, and then promptly returned for our interview.
I don’t remember much.  I still can’t bring myself to watch it.  All I could think the whole time is “Don’t touch him….don’t screw up…focus on his face….focus on his eyes…don’t touch him.”

I can honestly say, he was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.  He is gorgeous, I love when he smiles and he really, sincerely seemed to be interested in others.  I’ve met a lot of celebrities, and not only is he the most good looking, but I think he’s the most genuine.
