Race Day!

4 July 2009 39 views No Comment

Brumos Porsche 250
Daytona International Speedway
Daytona Beach, FL Dempsey Racing

The adventure for Patrick-G-Dempsey.com started with a 5 day run up caption contest to keep us girls  busPatrick Dempsey in Enchantedy waiting for the race. Images from the races were put up for Dempsey girls to put a fun caption to. The winner will win a DVD of the movie Enchanted by ®Walt Disney.

The winner will be chosen today by a panel of voters who did not participate in the caption contest.

We got some funny captions! These ladies entertained and even shocked me with their comments.

Today’s race events started with an early morning practice and qualifying session. The practice started with Speedy Joe Foster in the car and ended out with a best time of 1:53 871 and a position of 11 out of 16.

Next was qualifying with Zoom Zoom Patrick Dempsey in the #40 Mazda Rx8. The best lap time for Patrick was 1:54 058 holding the 11th place spot for the 2pm EST race.

In the next practice SJF got to practice for 8 laps and ZZPD for 3, Joe got some great time in and was even in 1st position for awhile. True that not all the GTs were practicing, but it looks good to see Dempsey Racing in 1st position. Even in practice.

Patrick Dempsey Grand Am RacerNow we Dempsey Dolls are on twitter waiting for the race to start in 20 minutes. We have designed a new tradition of twittering and watching the race together and have formed quite a club as well as a following. (follow pdempseyfansite on twitter to join in the fun! )

Wow- 3 hours later I am ready to return to the keyboard. The race was crazy today. Windshields flying off, people spinning out of control, cars tapping other cars. This is part of what I love about races. The uncertainty of the race. Who will win, who will spin out, whose car won’t be running and of course I have some fear of what may happen to our guys while they are out there! These cars are safe, but I still worry.

At one point Speedy Joe Foster is in the car and the number 60 car tapped him and he went flying through the grass. I am yelling NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!And my husband is laughing at me because these boys were already a bit behind and I was hoping for a top 5 finish and this spin puts them back 2 more positions.

They end up with a 11th position finish. Not a great position, especially after our fun 6th place finish in Mid Ohio, but you win some and you lose some. Its part of the competitive world.  Hopefully they guys aren’t taking it too bad.

A couple of articles out there about the race and/or people interviewing him while he was in Florida:

Dempsey and Foster will share the No. 40 Dempsey Racing Mazda RX-8 that will be racing with lead sponsorship from El Grado Tequila once again this weekend. The duo drove the Mazda to a career-best sixth-place finish one race ago in the EMCO Gears Classic at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and a top-five result is the goal at Daytona.

Joe’s best for the day so far is the team best: 1:52 989
Patrick’s personal best for the day is: 1:54 058 which was his qualifying time.

Here’s hoping to a good, fast, safe, clean race. Hope the boys and the car are
all in perfect working order. Go Dempsey Racing! Good Luck, we’re cheering
you on!
