Corpus Christi, TX June 29, 2009—Category-defining new tequila El Grado continues its partnership with Dempsey Racing. Halfway through the team’s 2009 season as their drivers Joe Foster and Patrick Dempsey have competed ably
in four starts in El Grado livery, Dempsey Racing is scheduled to compete in their Mazda RX-8 GT in the next Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series race, the Brumos Porsche 250, taking place July 4 at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. To commemorate the race, team sponsor El Grado Tequila will host a private tasting Friday, July 3 at The Shores Resort and Spa in Daytona Beach from 6:30PM to 9:00PM. There, visiting media and VIP’s will join El Grado’s founders and Dempsey Racing team drivers.
In addition to Daytona, five races remain in the Rolex Sports Car Series. Dempsey Racing’s Mazda RX-8 GT debuted in El Grado livery in time for a 7th place finish in Millville, New Jersey, a 10th place finish at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in California, and 7th in Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in Watkins Glen, NY. Their best finish ever (6th place) came June 20 in the EMCO Gears Classic (KeyBank) at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Between the New York and Ohio Rolex Sports Car Series events, Dempsey and his teammate, Grand Am Koni Challenge Champion Joe Foster, came in 9th in the 77th running of one of motor racing’s crown jewels, the 24 Hours of Le Mans driving a Ferrari F430GT. For this race, Dempsey and Foster drove a combined 20-plus hours after their third teammate, Don Kitch, Jr. fell ill.
