People magazine online…   I say there is no competition either. I like Clooney, but mostly for his looks. I’ve never really been into him though.

Clooney vs. Dempsey? No Competition Between TV Docs, Says McDreamy

Long before Grey’s Anatomy‘s McDreamy began melting hearts at Seattle Grace, George Clooney had fans swooning over his bedside manner as Dr. Doug Ross on the long-running hit series ER.

Could Clooney’s return to County General for the medical drama’s final season make for a scrub match between to the two TV docs?

“No, no, no,” says Patrick Dempsey, 43, who spoke to PEOPLE before competing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona auto race, where he announced that top fundraisers in 2009′s Avon Walk for Breast Cancer will win a trip to meet him. “There’s no competition. He’s always handled himself in such a great way.”

“I’ve heard a lot about how he behaved on the set and after the show,” adds Dempsey of Clooney, 47, “and I think there are a lot of things to learn from him.”

Back in ’96 the grandstand was abuzz about celebrity racers Jason Priestly, Craig T. Nelson and Paul Newman. This year all the attention was heaped on Dr. McDreamy, aka Patrick Dempsey. He loved it when I told him that we’d actually met twenty years ago on the set of “Coupe De Ville”, which was shot in my then-hometown of Travelers Rest, SC. His smile quickly faded, however, when I asked him how he felt about Izzie getting it on with a dead guy for the last six months on Grey’s Anatomy. Apparently he’s enjoyed that story line about as much as the rest of America.

Patrick Dempsey teams up with Avon’s Walk For Breast Cancer Challenge and races in the Grand-Am Rolex 24 At Daytona International Speedway. He smiled, signed autographs and chatted with the other racers. No drolling over you keyboards…
